Album

Rotary Connection was an American psychedelic soul band, formed in Chicago in 1966. In addition to their own recordings, including their 1967 debut album Rotary Connection, the band is notable as the backing band for Muddy Waters on his 1968 psychedelic blues album Electric Mud. The band's members included Minnie Riperton, who would emerge as a notable solo artist. Rotary Connection is the eponymous debut album of the American soul group Rotary Connection issued in 1968 on Cadet Concept Records. The album rose to No. 37 on the Billboard 200 chart. I heard Ruby Tuesday and Soul Man from this album on the radio maybe once or twice. To my terrific surprise the best song for me on the album was one I never heard back in the day. The RC cover of the Stones Lady Jane is just magically over the top. It literally blows my mind. I've never heard anything else like it. Rotary Connection - Rotary Connection 1967. The light Brazilian If I Sing My Song will put a smile on the face of the most critical listener. Our heart strings are gently pulled by The Sea & She and we remember sweetly. The jazzy-funky I Am The Connection. The most inexplicable aspect of Rotary Connection's debut is that its strange and experimental qualities are often referred to as charming but dated, while Love's Forever Changes released the same year, a record that is just a shade less bizarre and no more psychedelic, is universally viewed as timeless. There's no mistaking that this is hardly a flawless record - this band, more an experiment than anything else, was only beginning to find its feet.
