The Harrow & The Harvest - Gillian Welch. Лента с персональными рекомендациями и музыкальными новинками, радио, подборки на любой вкус, удобное управление своей. The Harrow & The Harvest is a 2011 album released by American musician Gillian Welch. It was Welch's first album in eight years and was released on June 28, 2011. The album was nominated for Best Folk Album for the 54th Grammy Awards. The eight years since the release of 2003's Soul Journey marked the longest period of time between album releases for Welch. In explaining the relatively long recording absence, Welch said, The sad truth is we never liked anything enough to put it out. The album illustrates a near-symbiotic guitar interplay rhythms, melodies, and even countermelodies are exchanged organically, interlocked in the moment. The protagonists in these ten songs are desperate, broken, and hurt individuals some stubbornly cling to shreds of hope while others resign themselves to tragedy even as they go on still others, like the one in the opener Scarlet Town, reflect anger and the wish for vengeance. Here's the track The Way it Goes from Gillian Welch's 2011 Grammy Award nominated album The Harrow & the Harvest just released on vinyl cut from free to Gillian Welch The Harrow & The Harvest Scarlet Town, Dark Turn of Mind and more. 10 tracks 46:14. On this, Gillian Welch's fifth album, the familiar blending of traditional sounds and moods with modern sensibilities is effortlessly sustained through songs like the mordant The Way It Goes Betsy Johnson bought the farm, stuck a needle in her arm, that's the way that it goes. Формируйте собственную коллекцию записей. Welch and Rawlings reap what they sow with a perfect 10, writes Kitty Empire. It has been eight long years since Gillian Welch's last album, 2003's Soul Journey a gap that prompts the inevitable question from those in thrall to the post-Appalachian lull of this Nashville-based duo. What have they been doing Preparing the ground, you might conclude. And yet, on repeated listens The Harrow & the Harvest feels more mysterious than this asceticism suggests. It is replete with events alluded to, but unsung. Many of their albums are like this carefully written to sound like folk manuscripts handed down across the ages, illuminated by Rawlings's eloquent guitar

What a great album (overall rank 3.193 best ever albums). I love her voice, goes straight to the heart, love this album from start to finish, and what a great pressing, with QRP you are always safe, happy listening!Wikipedia:The Harrow & The Harvest is a 2011 album released by American musician Gillian Welch. It was Welch's first album in eight years and was released on June 28, 2011. The album was nominated for Best Folk Album for the 54th Grammy Awards. The eight years since the release of 2003's Soul Journey marked the longest period of time between album releases for Welch. In explaining the relatively long recording absence, Welch said, "The sad truth is we never liked anything enough to put it out, which is not a pleasant place to be." She added, "over the course of that time that we were quiet we probably had enough songs to put out two or three records. Actually we made a few tentative steps at trying to record, but inevitably the heart would go out of it when we realised that we simply didn't like the material enough to go on with it."Welch frequently performed the song "The Way It Will Be" in years prior to the release of the album. Welch explains that this tense time period inspired the album title: "Our songcraft slipped and I really don't know why. It's not uncommon. It's something that happens to writers. It's the deepest frustration we have come through, hence the album title." The writing process involved "this endless back and forth between the two of us," Welch said, stating that "It’s our most intertwined, co-authored, jointly-composed album." John Dyer Baizley provided artwork for the album.
My copy is far from perfect with plenty of scattered ticks. I've gone through two copies with the same issues. I get that this is a quiet album, but QRP failed on this one. It's also slightly warped. Sonically, it sounds great and the packaging is gorgeous but there are pressing issues.

Here is a link to the vinyl reviews review of this specific pressing:
Fantastic quality all around on this classic album. Top notch-mastering on a crystal clear pressing.
just got a copy from amazon, only $17, it was well pressed - silent, flat and sounds great !
My pressing is totally disappointing. I think its one from the second batch (?) which comes end of 2017 to Germany.
What is the story with this one? The first press sold out very quickly and a second press was announced. However, this never made it over to Europe to my knowledge as I had it on order with my vinyl dealer? Even so, availability in the U.S.A. seems to have been very patchy with lots of people missing out again. I know it is available from Gillian’s website and is that how it’s going to be? Surely QRP could manufacture enough copies to satisfy the undoubted demand for this one, worldwide? ????
So happy that this was widely available! Got it at my local record store. A favorite album already on CD and now with this on vinyl: wow! I only feel bad for my bank account as this has opened my ears to audiophile pressings.
Does anyone know how many records that were pressed the first round?
Really excellent press - lovely sound. Listening on Cambridge Audio amp and phono stage and B&W speakers both well suited to the sparse sound. Great songs - well worth the wait and far better than the previous rushed album. "Hard Times" is the anthem of our era. Would love a vinyl release of "Revelator" as well.
Gillian and David are working backwards through their catalogue with vinyl editions. Soul Journey is available now so Revelator isn't far off.
yeah, why haven't the released Revelator on vinyl? Clearly demand for it is their, an opportunity missed
Think this release needs to be labelled as "first pressing" as the 2nd press is nearly upon us.
Makes a mockery of the 1st press distinction. Real first press have a sticker saying so. Second batch will never be as sharp as 1st.
It will most likely have the same "matrix" in the deadwax so a separate listing would be unnecessary.
Do not buy from the flippers. The label is awaiting a second pressing of this. Check their site for updates. Last I read, the second pressing was two weeks out.
I can buy from whomever I want.......I believe in free market system
I'll agree with the other posts here, the overall sound quality of this LP is certainly among the best in my collection, even non GW fans will be able to appreciate the simplicity and overall quality of the sound from this LP.
Excellent sounding record. Here's an interview with Gillian about what she and Dave went through to get this pressed. And (spoiler alert) more of her albums will be coming to vinyl soon
Best sounding album in my collection! Stellar job by Gillian and David. *On a side note, is anyone experiencing a hiccup on " the way it goes" about half way through? Unfortunately I think i got a bad pressing. It pops for about four rotations then passes.
Had the same flaw - but worse - click thru 3/4 of the track but Amazon replaced and this is crystal clear
Mine has the same little flaw but man does the lp sound wonderful
This record historically lifts the benchmark to a height previously not imagined. One listen and I was at a total loss to explain what a pleasure it was to behold. The Album itself reminded me of buying Neil Young's U.S. copy of "After The Goldrush". 2000 copies released world wide is a little scary! Gil & Dave are just incredible.
lets go baby
Any source on the amount of copies of the first pressing? I can't find it mentioned anywhere in interviews or Acony Bell. They did sell out on their site but looks like they're doing a second pressing.
So there are only 2000 total? Glad I grabbed one then. Such a great pressing.
One of the best sounding records in my collection. An absolute gem on all fronts, pressing, packaging, materials, sound, songs. It doesn't get much better than this.
Now this is how it is done. Amazing AAA pressing. Flat, quiet, pure analog goodness. It took forever to get this release on vinyl, but it was worth the wait.
